AI readiness assessment for insurers

An AI readiness assessment is not a technology audit. It is a business diagnostic that tells you whether your data, your decisions, and your governance are ready for AI. Most insurers are not.

By Zakir Hoosen, Director, Fuzzelogic Solutions. Board-level guidance in plain English.

Every board wants to know whether AI can help. That is the right question. The wrong question is how to implement it. Before you implement anything, you need to know whether you are ready. An AI readiness assessment answers that question.

This guide explains what an AI readiness assessment is, what it covers, and why it is the only sensible first step.

What an assessment is

An AI readiness assessment is not a technology audit. It is a diagnostic that tells you whether your business is ready for AI, where the gaps are, and what to do about them.

Fuzzelogic uses a framework of five tests. Reachable means the data the AI needs can be found when it needs it. Trustworthy means the data is accurate, current, and complete. Explainable means someone can explain why the system made a particular decision. Changeable means the system can be changed when the business changes. Governed means someone has decided what the system may and may not do.

If your business passes all five, you are ready. If it fails one, you have a gap to fix. If it fails two or more, you have a project to plan before you plan anything else.

What the assessment covers

The assessment looks at four areas. Each one matters. Missing any one of them means the assessment is not complete.

Data. Where is your data, what condition is it in, and can it be reached by AI? In insurance, data lives in multiple systems and formats. The assessment maps it and tells you what is ready.

Decisions. What decisions does AI need to make, and who is accountable? The assessment identifies each one and classifies it by risk.

Governance. Who is accountable and how do you know it is working? The assessment tells you whether your governance is ready for AI.

People. Who needs to change how they work and what training do they need? The people question is not a secondary consideration.

"61% of CEOs say boards are rushing AI transformation, and around 40% of boards lack an informed view of how AI changes growth strategy."

Boards are rushing without an informed view. An assessment gives you the informed view before you invest.

Why it matters

The most expensive mistake in AI is building before you are ready. You spend the money, sign the contract, and discover the data is not there or the governance is not in place.

An assessment prevents that. It tells you, in two to four weeks, whether you are ready. If you are not, it tells you what to fix.

"Ninety percent of companies have launched some flavor of digital transformation, and only a third of the expected revenue benefits, on average, have been realized."

Two thirds failed. The technology was not the problem. The readiness was.

What the assessment is not

The assessment is not a technology audit. It does not look at your systems and tell you what to replace. It looks at your business and tells you what is ready for AI.

It is not a sales pitch. Fuzzelogic does not sell technology. We tell you what you need, whether or not we build any of it. It is not a one-off. It is worth repeating as the business evolves.

The honest version

In my opinion, the assessment is the most valuable thing a board can do before it spends a pound on AI. It costs less than a fraction of a project and gives you the information you need to make a real decision.

The boards that skip the assessment are the ones that spend money on projects that do not deliver. The difference is information.

You already have AI in your business. You just do not know where. We find it, classify it, and tell you what to do about it.
