Dev G- Round 2 - Done

Hi!

The second event for the Developers group finally got underway. Everything seemed to fall in place with everyone arriving on time. We spent a couple minutes trying to get the projector going, it turns out someone(me) didn’t turn on the power.

I think it all went well, with Mike talking about the 3.5 Language features in c#. It was well presented and a good use of real world examples highlighted how these features can benefit real projects.

Again, everyone was happy enough to continue this, so we’re looking at having another one around the 15th July 2009 (this date is NOT fixed). We’ve not finalized a topic, so if anyone has any suggestions let me know.

I would like to thank Mike for the very informative presentation and also like to thank everyone that turned up. A big thank you has to also go out to Dimension Data (isle of man) who allowed us the use of room, without which this could not have been possible.

See you all at the next one.!!

Thanx

Zak

MS did not consider the Isle of man ** updated

Hey all!

Seems that Microsoft did not consider the Isle of Man.

try the following  (on vs 2008) …

var countryName = new RegionInfo("IM").DisplayName;

you get  a “Not support” exception. “IM” is the Iso code for the isle of man (http://www.iso.org/iso/english_country_names_and_code_elements)

Not to worry, I’ve submitted to Microsoft - Lets see what happens…
Thanx

devG: round 2 - c# language features - Rescheduled

Hey!

Mike has agreed to share is knowledge with us, and will be giving a talk on the 3.5 language features, covering Lamdas,  Extension methods and linq. I’m sure it will be interesting for everyone.

As you can imagine its been challenging finding a venue especially around TT week. A company in Ballasalla has kindly allowed us to have a room for the evening of the 9th June 2009   23rd June 2009.

So the second meeting will be : Tuesday, 9th June 2009 23rd June 2009 ,  Global House, Station Road, Ballasalla. Its the  office park next to the Ballasalla station.  Should we say around 6:15pm.

See u there!

Thanx

Zak
